To find a profitable kdp niche using book bolt, you first have a general idea of the type of book is going to create. For example, if you want to create an educational workbook you can start with math workbooks. I have published 5 math workbooks on kdp, which are doing great for me.
Let’s just head over to the keyword research tool inside book bolt and type “math workbook” and let see what keywords show up.
Right off the bat, we can see that a lot of keywords related to our see keyword have thousands of searches per month on amazon. Here you can put some of these keywords into the amazon search bar and see the no of results.
Like if you see enter “3rd math workbook” into the amazon search bar, you will see it has over 5,000 amazon search results, that’s too much competition. So, what you can do now? Well, you can try adding some more words to this keyword and make it a long-tale keyword.
Niching Down To Find a Profitable Book Idea
For example, you can think of a specific component for a math workbook like multiplication or division. I have retyped the keyword “3rd math workbook” into the amazon search bar and after adding a space if have entered the word multiplication. Then I waited for the amazon autocomplete to give me a suggestion.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the second amazon suggestion is 3rd math workbook multiplication and division, which can potentially have lower search results. Just enter the whole keyword phrase into the amazon search bar, and you can see the outcome below.
The amazon search results have gone down to over 1,000 from 5,000 that’s pretty amazing. We have just found a low-competition kdp niche for publishing a math workbook. However, low competition is not always sufficient to make money with amazon kdp books. For that, you need to establish the 2nd piece of the puzzle and that is Demand.
Validating Your KDP Niche For Demand
There are a couple of ways you can use to validate a kdp niche in terms of demand, below I will be showing you two of them.
Method # 1
The first method to establish a good demand for a kdp niche is by looking at the amazon listings on the first page for a specific keyword phrase. As I have typed our target keywords “3rd math workbook multiplication and division” in the amazon search bar, hit enter and see the book listing on the first page (skipping sponsored listings).
I have opened a couple of the most relevant books in the new tab and found below books are selling very well for our target keyword.
This first book contains the exact match keyword in the title and is ranking just over 36,500 in the books store on amazon. With this average best-seller rank, this book is selling well over 10 copies per day.
The 2nd book contains a variation of our target keyword and has a very good best-seller rank of 8,543. With this best-seller rank, this book is selling 28 copies every single day or 426 copies per month which is an amazing number.
In this way, you can check 3 to 5 books on the first page and if 3 or more relevant books have a good bsr (below 150k) then there must be a good demand for that specific book niche.
Method # 2
The second way to check a kdp niche for demand is by using book bolt’s keyword research module and having a look at the amazon search volume. I have searched the main short tail keyword (3rd grade math workbook) and the long tail keyword ( 3rd grade math workbook muliplication and division) and found both have a very good search volume.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the main short tail keyword has a monthly search volume of over 300k which is great and the long tail keyword has decent monthly searches too! Though these numbers provided by book bolt are not exact they do give you an estimate of how popular a keyword is on amazon.

In this blog post, I have shared a quick way to find profitable kdp niches in 2023. All you need is to have a broad idea of what type of book you want to create. Then find a relevant keyword phrase using book bolt’s keyword research module and finally niche down to find a low competition long tail keyword.
I have also mentioned two ways to know if your target kdp niche has a demand or not. This is important because having a low-competition niche is not enough unless it has some demand. In other words, to be successful with amazon kdp, you should aim for a niche with low competition and high demand.
