How I Made Over $15,400 on Amazon KDP Selling Simple PDFs

I create and publish educational products through Amazon KDP, and a small group of those products has generated more than $15,400 in royalties.

The surprising part isn’t really the money. It’s the type of business behind it.

There was no inventory sitting in my house, no complicated software product to build, and no massive launch campaign. I simply created useful educational resources around an existing need and published them on Amazon.

That experience has changed the way I think about online business.

Boring Doesn’t Mean Bad

The internet has a way of making every business opportunity sound exciting. There’s always a new AI tool, a new platform, a new business model, or a new strategy that supposedly changes everything.

But most people don’t buy products because they’re exciting. They buy them because those products solve a problem.

That’s what I like about educational publishing. The underlying needs are straightforward. Parents need resources to help their children practice. Teachers need additional materials. Students need opportunities to reinforce what they’re learning.

You don’t necessarily have to invent something completely new. Sometimes there’s an opportunity in taking an existing need and creating a useful solution around it.

Of course, that doesn’t mean every product will sell. Competition, demand, keywords, quality, positioning, and presentation all matter.

But I like starting with a problem that already exists rather than trying to convince people that they need something they have never heard of.

I Didn’t Create Everything at Once

There’s an important detail behind the $15,400+ figure.

I didn’t create all of these products in one big push. They were published over several years, with some created earlier and others added much later.

That’s actually a more useful way to look at the result.

It’s easy to see a number like $15,400 and imagine one successful launch or one product that suddenly took off. That isn’t what happened here. The products became part of a growing KDP catalog over time.

Some performed better than others. Some generated sales consistently, while others were much quieter.

But collectively, they became something more valuable than any individual product: a catalog.

The Catalog Is the Real Asset

This is probably one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from publishing on Amazon.

I don’t think of KDP as creating one book and hoping it becomes a bestseller. I think of it as gradually building a collection of useful products.

One product might generate a few sales. Another might perform better. Sometimes an older product can continue generating sales long after you’ve stopped actively working on it.

You also learn from every product you publish. You get a better understanding of what customers are looking for, how products are presented, what types of ideas are worth pursuing, and where you may have made mistakes.

Over time, that experience becomes part of the asset too.

Technology Makes the Process Easier

One of the tools that makes this type of publishing much more practical is a math worksheet generator.

Instead of manually creating hundreds of individual math problems, you can generate worksheets based on the type of practice you want to create and then customize the output for your project.

If you’re a KDP publisher, teacher, tutor, homeschool parent, or someone interested in creating educational printables, this can save a huge amount of repetitive work.

I’ve used a tool like this as part of my own publishing workflow, and it’s one of those tools that becomes much more useful once you start creating multiple resources.

The $15,400+ Is Really About Compounding

When I look at the $15,400+ in royalties, I don’t see one spectacular success.

I see years of small decisions.

A product created at one point. Another added later. Lessons learned from both. Improvements made along the way. Some products performed well, while others didn’t.

Eventually, those individual efforts added up to something meaningful.

That’s one reason I still like evergreen publishing.

I’ve been publishing on Amazon KDP since 2017, and I’ve seen first-hand that a product doesn’t necessarily become irrelevant simply because it’s no longer new. If it continues to solve a problem, it can remain useful to customers.

That’s very different from creating something today and expecting it to immediately replace your income.

If you’d like to see the general process I use to create these kinds of KDP products, I’ve put together a video showing how I approach the workflow.
