Amazon KDP Niche Research for Beginners (2026)

A quick way to find book ideas with high demand but low competition

If you are new to Amazon KDP and want a faster way to conduct niche research, this post is for you. The KDP niche research process I’m about to share can work equally well for advanced publishers as well.

The KDP tool I will be using is called Book Bolt, an all-in-one tool for researching, creating, and publishing high-quality books on Amazon.

KDP Niche Research Using Book Bolt Product Research

Okay, once logged in, go to the Product Search tab from the left menu.

This will show you a page where you can choose a book category and search for a keyword or phrase. But to access the real power of this product search tool, click on the Advanced search button as shown in the screenshot below:

This advanced search option shows you some very useful filters that you can use to speed up your niche research process.

These filters include:

1. BSR (Best Seller Rank)
2. AVG BSR (Average Best Seller Rank)
3. Estimated Sales
4. Price (Range)
5. Rating (0–5)
6. Review Number

These new product search filters are super handy for finding low-competition niches that have demand.

How I Use These Advanced Search Filters

To get the most out of this advanced search feature and filters, I like to use the following values:

1. BSR (Best Seller Rank): 1 to 100,000
2. AVG BSR (Average Best Seller Rank): 1 to 50,000
3. Estimated Sales: 30 to 1,000
4. Price (Range): $7 to $20
5. Rating (0–5): 1 to 5
6. Review Number: 0 to 50

The idea is to find books that at least make one sale a day, have comparatively fewer reviews, but a good average best seller rank.

To see this process in action, you can first select a book category. You can choose from the categories below:

1. General
2. Notebook
3. Journal
4. Calendar
5. Planner
6. Coloring Book
7. Guest Book
8. Activity Book
9. Puzzle Book
10. Comic Book
11. Log Book
12. Tracker
13. Sketch Book

For the sake of this post, I selected the Coloring Book category; you can select a different one if you want. I selected the coloring book category, left the keyword field blank, applied my filters, and hit the Search button:

Based on these research filters and my chosen book category, Book Bolt’s Product search is showing me the following coloring book ideas:

# 1 — K-Pop Coloring Book: Bold and Easy Coloring for Teens…

This is a recently published coloring book and is selling very well on Amazon right now. It’s priced at $9.99, which is great for a coloring book. The current BSR is 512, and estimated sales are 646 during the last 30 days.

Although this book is selling very well and looks promising, you need to do a copyright or trademark check before creating and publishing a similar book on Amazon.

This book has the keyword K-Pop, which may be a trademarked word. So, be careful while using these popular words in your book metadata.

Anyway, let’s see the next book idea.

# 2— Large Print Winter Coloring Book

The large print winter coloring book is also selling very well. The price is $9.99, which is the minimum required by KDP to earn 60% royalties. 

The Best Seller Rank (BSR) is 4,559, and the estimated monthly sales are 445 during the last 30 days. The Average BSR is 18,245, and the review count is 12.

This book was published on October 24, 2025, and is already making very good sales. This is mostly due to the holiday season, when these books tend to sell extremely well.

Next, I did the same process for a different book category. This time, I decided to go with the Puzzle Book category.

# 3— The Mega Book of Mixed Puzzles

Our third book idea is “The Mega Book of Mixed Puzzles”. This puzzle book is priced at $13.99, which I believe is a very good price point to earn more per book sale and get a positive ROI while running ads.

The BSR is 4,273 with estimated sales of 445. The Average BSR stays at 3,243, which means the book has been ranking well for the last 30 days or so.

The book was published in July 2025 and currently has 40+ reviews with an average rating of 4.4. Overall, this mixed puzzle book niche seems profitable and worth trying.

# 4— Logic Puzzle Book for Kids and Teens

“Logic Puzzle Book for Kids and Teens”appears to be another profitable book idea based on the following data:

The book is priced well at $12.99 to make a decent royalty rate and run ads profitably. The BSR is 14,703, and estimated monthly sales are 358. The Average BSR is 21,810 with 327 moving sales.

This puzzle book has 27 reviews with a 4.6 rating, which is a great start for a medium content book.

Final Thoughts

KDP Niche research doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. With the new Book Bolt 2.0 Product Research features, you can quickly filter out low-competition and high-demand ideas without guessing or spending hours scrolling through Amazon.
